A Man of His Time

The film is a fictionalized account of a meeting between a descendent of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney (who in 1857 delivered the majority opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford ruling that African Americans could not be considered citizens and that Congress could not prohibit slavery in the territories of the United States) and a direct descendent of Dred Scott himself. It is based on a series of real events.

A Man of His Time is a narrative short film directed by Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons and written by Kate Taney Billingsley. The film is produced by Timothy Doyle. Rohan Rao is the cinematographer and editor of the film. A Man of His Time won the Audience Choice Award for New York Women in Film and Television.
